Huawei started by selling phones at low prices but in recent years has shifted focus to increase its market share in the high end of the market, battling Apple and Samsung. As part of that move, Huawei has developed its own chips, including a modem to give smartphones 5G connectivity, and a processor to power its devices. 5G is next-generation mobile internet, which delivers data at very high speeds. So far, those pieces of technology have been used only in Huawei's devices. Apple declined to comment when contacted by CNBC. However, Huawei is facing huge political pressure, particularly from the United States, which has said the company is a national security risk because it could help the Chinese government carry out espionage. Huawei has looked to challenge Apple among consumers and even overtook the company in smartphone market share last year.
Facebook is preparing a global livestream crackdown on its 2.3 billion users with some to be blocked from live broadcasting videos ahead of a meeting with the Australian government, as the US-based tech behemoth continues to grapple with the fallout of the Christchurch massacre. Sources close to the social media platform said those who broke the site’s rules, such as spreading hate speech on Facebook, would be stopped from going live under the changes. This comes a month after a terrorist attack in New Zealand was livestreamed by the alleged gunman on Facebook. The Australian government has been among those taking a tough stance against Facebook, pushing through new legislation threatening billions of dollars in fines and prison sentences for executives should websites not act fast enough to remove terrorist and objectionable footage from their platforms. Google brought in tougher changes to its livestreaming on video platform YouTube earlier this month, re-introducing a requirement for users to have 1000 subscribers before they can go live when using a mobile device.
(Bloomberg) -- Elon Musk, already in hot water with securities regulators over his Twitter use, said in a tweet that Tesla Inc. would make over 500,000 cars in the next 12 months. The forecast, made as part of a seemingly innocuous aside in a discussion about the future value of Tesla vehicles, nonetheless comes as Musk’s lawyers are negotiating with U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission lawyers about whether the chief executive officer violated a settlement intended to put controls in place relating to his tweets. U.S. District Judge Alison Nathan on April 4 told the two sides to rework the language so there won’t be any ambiguity on what Musk is allowed to post to his 25.6 million Twitter followers. In an April 3 statement, Tesla reiterated its forecast for as many as 400,000 vehicle deliveries in calendar year 2019. For more articles like this, please visit us at bloomberg.com.

A former traffic court judge currently in the running for a seat on the Philadelphia City Council was caught hitting a parked Tesla Model 3 and subsequently leaving the scene without reporting the incident. Judge Willie Singletary is seen backing out his Cadillac Escalade into the Tesla Model 3 parked next to him in the video, triggering the car’s alarm. The affected part of the Model 3 isn’t visible in the video, but given the drawn-out contemplation and multiple attempts to smooth out the damage by Singletary, a police report or (at minimum) note to the owner was definitely warranted. Given former Judge Willie Singletary’s colorful history with vehicle violations, this latest encounter with a Tesla Model 3’s Sentry Mode is likely not going to bode well for his City Council ambitions.
