Burger King asks customers to guess if their burger is meat

QSR

Burger King has fun ‘game’ for customers: Guess if your burger is meat. The fast food chain recently launched two plant-based burgers in Sweden, one a meatless version of the classic Whopper and the other a chicken-free version of its chicken sandwich, called the “Rebel Whopper” and “Rebel Chicken King” respectively. Presumably this “game” is only for meat eaters, unless there are some nihilistic vegetarians out there willing to play a meaty version of Russian roulette. While the Rebel Whopper and Rebel Chicken King are only in Sweden for now, earlier this year, Burger King announced it was launching a Whopper made with the bleeding plant-based Impossible Burgers across the U.S. this year. The chain already accidentally found out that consumers can’t tell the difference between meat and vegetarian Whoppers when a location in New York City gave real meat Whoppers to customers who ordered “Impossible Whoppers.” Burger King claims that was “due to a technology error.” A technology error in one country is a marketing plan in another.

2 girls petitioning McDonald's, Burger King over toys - WFMZ

QSR

(CNN) - When children open their kids' meals from McDonald's or Burger King, they're probably looking forward to one thing the most: the plastic toy inside. However, if these two children are successful, that will be a thing of the past. Sisters Ella and Caitlin McEwan, ages 9 and 7, started a petition to call on the fast-food giants to stop putting plastic toys in their kids' meals. McDonald's said in a statement, "In the UK over the next six months our Happy Meal promotions will include a mixture of board games, books and soft toys -- which will see an almost 60% reduction in the number of hard plastic toys given away in comparison to the first half of the year." "We like to go to eat at Burger King and McDonald's, but children only play with the plastic toys they give us for a few minutes before they get thrown away and harm animals and pollute the sea," the two wrote for the petition.

Burger King tacos: Fast-food chain promoting $1 menu item for a limited time

QSR

A new $1 item from a national fast-food chain is "everything you'd expect from a taco" ... except it's from Burger King. The burger chain announced that, beginning on Tuesday, it is offering a cripsy taco filled with seasoned beef, shredded cheddar cheese and lettuce, and topped with a savory taco sauce. "We've seen success with tacos in our west coast restaurants and knew it was time to bring this west coast crowd-pleaser nationwide," Chris Finazzo, president of the Burger King Corporation in North America, said in a press release. More recently, KFC announced that it is selling a Cheetos Chicken Sandwich throughout July. As multiple food-centric news outlets have pointed out, another burger joint, Jack in the Box, already sells tacos and just began testing "tiny tacos" in some areas of the country. As for Burger King, it's been known to mix up its menu.

Let’s taco-bout Burger King’s new menu item

QSR

Starting on July 9, the fast-food giant Burger King is debuting a $1 Crispy Taco. The Crispy Taco is made up of a hard tortilla shell, seasoned ground beef, shredded cheddar cheese and lettuce topped with a special taco sauce. “We’ve seen success with tacos in our west coast restaurants and knew it was time to bring this west coast crowd-pleaser nationwide,” said Burger King President Chris Finazzo. It seems this trend of adding food items to your menu that is outside the expected food groups of the restaurant is really taking off, for example IHOP’s Pancake Burger or Taco Bell’s Nacho Fries.

McDonald's and Burger King are facing calls to scrap plastic toys in kids' meal deals

QSR

McDonald's and Burger King are the target of a petition started by two British school children who criticize the companies for giving away the toys that they say are put in the trash after only being used briefly. McDonald's Happy Meal and Burger King's Kids' Meal include a main meal, side, drink and a toy, which is often linked to movie releases. "We like to go to eat at Burger King and McDonald's, but children only play with the plastic toys they give us for a few minutes before they get thrown away and harm animals and pollute the sea," wrote Ella and Caitlin Wood on a Change.org petition page, which has more than 335,000 signatures. "But we want to do more, which is why we started this petition. It's not enough to make recyclable plastic toys — big, rich companies shouldn't be making toys out of plastic at all," they wrote.
