Goodyear's stock surges after profit beats expectations, while revenue misses

Shares of Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. ran up 7% in premarket trade Friday, after the tire maker reported a first-quarter adjusted profit that beat expectations, although sales fell short. The company also said it refinanced its European revolving credit facility, to extend the maturity to 2024 and increase available commitments by 45% to EUR800 million. For the quarter to March 31, the company swung to a net loss of $61 million, or 26 cents a share, from earnings of $75 million, or 31 cents a share, in the year-ago period. Excluding non-recurring items, including a "significant" charge related to the modernization of facilities in Germany, adjusted EPS fell to 19 cents from 50 cents, but was well above the FactSet consensus of 6 cents. Sales fell 6% to $3.60 billion, missing the FactSet consensus of $3.71 billion, as tire unit volume fell 3%.
