Walmart Stock Still Doesn’t Look Quite Cheap Enough

WMT

Simply put, I’m not sold on Walmart (NYSE:WMT). And for the most part, the market of late has agreed. Walmart stock hit $100 after earnings back in August. Since then, WMT stock has seen quite a bit of volatility, but at $98 sits roughly back where it started. Profit growth simply isn’t that impressive, even with Q4 earnings beating expectations. And unless that changes, it’s tough to see WMT stock rising much further. Bulls might retort that Walmart is a better company and that might be true, but so far, that improvement isn’t showing up in earnings.

How Asda cut out 6,500 tonnes of plastic packaging in a year

WMT

Yahoo Finance UKMarch 13, 2019, 3:44 PM GMT. Asda has announced it removed over 6,500 tonnes of single-use plastic packaging from its products over the past year. The Walmart-owned supermarket giant said it achieved this huge reduction in plastic waste by switching to alternative forms of packaging for own-brand products ranging from fresh fruit and vegetables, to electronics, to homeware. Some of the steps taken include swapping plastic package on ready meals for foil, removing plastic covers from over 50 million greeting cards, and scrapping plastic film on over 1.6 million mince pies sold during the 2018 festive season. Over 12 months, Asda managed to remove about 600 million empty plastic bottles’ worth of plastic from its products in total, as part of a commitment to combat plastic pollution. Roger Burnley, president and CEO of Asda said: “Making changes of this scale in a business of this size is never easy, but I was clear last year that we needed to take a root and branch review of what packaging we use for our products.

First look at proposed Walmart warehouse and distribution centre in South Surrey

WMT

An application before Surrey council provides a first glimpse at a proposal to build a Walmart warehouse and distribution facility in Campbell Heights. Walmart Canada announced last July that it intended to invest $175 million into the project, which will operate as a frozen grocery facility. Surrey council will consider the project Monday night (March 11). If approved it would see a 296,922-square-foot building constructed at 19500 26th Ave, next to the Township of Langley border. “This is the first site of its kind that Walmart Canada is building, as the company works to achieve zero waste across its operations by 2025,” said Diane Medeiros, manager of Walmart Canada corporate communications, last summer.
