American Eagle Outfitters Looks Like A Cheap Dividend Clothier For 2020

AEO

American Eagle Outfitters Looks Like A Cheap Dividend Clothier For 2020 | NASDAQ. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, clothing and accessory store sales are down 0.6% in 2019 compared with a 3.2% rise for retail overall and a 12% rise for e-commerce. Shares were down 26% in the last year compared with a 27% increase for the S&P 500. But valuation is not quite matching reality, and this is starting to look like one cheap dividend stock -- if the growth story can continue. Revenues at American Eagle are up 7% through the first three reported quarters of 2019, with total comparable sales (or comps, a blend of foot traffic and average purchase size) up 4%.

New tenant sought for American Eagle Outfitter's Times Square flagship

AEO

The search is on for a tenant at a Times Square building that is home to American Eagle Outfitters Inc.’s mega-flagship store. Real estate brokers are marketing the entire four floors at 1551 Broadway, in the heart of the busy tourist district, according to people with knowledge of the matter, who asked not to be named because the plans are private. American Eagle Outfitters, based in Pittsburgh, has stood out among its retailer peers as relatively stable, with its growing Aerie lingerie line. “We’ve closed approximately 130 underperforming stores since 2015 as we continued to strengthen our fleet.”. Asking retail rents in Times Square have jumped to an average of $1,675 a square foot, according to a report by commercial brokerage Jones Lang LaSalle Inc. That compares with less than $900 when the company signed the lease in 2007.

Should Value Investors Pick American Eagle Outfitters (AEO)?

AEO

After all, who wouldn’t want to find stocks that are either flying under the radar and are compelling buys, or offer up tantalizing discounts when compared to fair value? This shows us how much investors are willing to pay for each dollar of earnings in a given stock, and is easily one of the most popular financial ratios in the world. This approach compares a given stock’s price to its total sales, where a lower reading is generally considered better. Some people like this metric more than other value-focused ones because it looks at sales, something that is far harder to manipulate with accounting tricks than earnings. Why American Eagle Outfitters Stock Gave Up 24% Last Year

AEO

Why American Eagle Outfitters Stock Gave Up 24% Last Year | NASDAQ. What happened. Shares of American Eagle Outfitters(NYSE: AEO) pulled back last year as the teen apparel retailer posted sluggish profit growth through the fiscal year and tariff fears drove investors away. According to data from S&P Global Market Intelligence, the stock finished the year down 24%. As the chart below shows, the stock dove in May on tariff woes and continued to slide from there, as the market was unimpressed with the company's quarterly results and wary of a trade war with China. Image source: American Eagle. However, that all unraveled in May as retail stocks dove broadly on concerns about tariffs, with the SPDR S&P Retail ETF falling 12% that month and American Eagle itself plunging 27% even though there was no direct news out on the stock.

American Eagle: A Good Stock With a Weak Market Perception

AEO

The slowdown resulting from the trade war has had a far-reaching impact across a number of sectors, and one of the affected is retail. While U.S. consumption has not started slowing down yet, it is a matter of time before discretionary consumer spending starts dropping. One of the slowest performing sub-sectors within retail this year has been the apparel retail market, where stocks are already trading at low multiples owing to the reduced market optimism. One such stock which has recently delivered decent results in these tough times is American Eagle Outfitters (NYSE:AEO). It has stores under the brand names of American Eagle, Aerie, Tailgate and Todd Snyder. While its store presence is strong in the U.S., Canada, UK, China and Hong Kong, it ships its products across the globe and is a very well-known global apparel brand. Since American Eagle operates within the apparel retail space, which hasn't been one of the best performers in the past year, the analyst expectations with respect to the company's results have been low, giving it the chance to outperform. For the most recent quarter, the management reported a top-line of $1.07 billion, above the analyst consensus figure of $1.06 billion.
