Daimler AG: Daimler India Commercial Vehicle losses halve in FY-20, Co reports 21% rise in operating profit, Auto News, ET Auto

DAI

Despite a tough year for commercial vehicles in FY-20, the Indian subsidiary of the world's largest medium and heavy truck maker Daimler halved its losses in India, backed by extensive cost cuts and boost to exports. Led by improved operating performance and higher responsibility given to India by the global office in terms of development, sourcing and exports, DICV announced close to $300 million investment in India in May of 2020 for the period of next three to five years. Raw material optimization and tight control on the overheads resulted in DICV improving operating profit margins by 264 basis points to 6.13% in FY20 compared with the previous fiscal, according to the company’s annual filing to the corporate affairs department. The decline in raw material and other expenses was substantially lower than the drop in revenue. As a result, the operating profit rose 21% to Rs 352 crore.

Aston Martin, Mercedes to share F1 safety car duties in 2021

AML DAI

{{day}} {{monthName}} {{year}}, {{hourTwoDigit}}:{{minuteTwoDigit}}. Aston Martin is set to share safety car duties with Mercedes at Formula 1 races from next year, Motorsport.com has learned. Mercedes has exclusively provided the official F1 safety car since 1996, starting out originally with a Mercedes-AMG C36 and currently using a Mercedes-AMG GT R. While the German car manufacturer has been fully committed up until now, discussions are underway about a revised deal for 2021, when a new Concorde Agreement comes in. Although it is understood that no final decision has been made, sources have revealed that it is looking increasingly likely that Mercedes will step back from being the sole safety car supplier. It will continue to play a major role – which will include providing F1's medical car - but talks are ongoing about a revised arrangement that will likely result in the safety car responsibilities being shared with Aston Martin. Such a change of deal, that could see the safety car use split evenly between the two car manufacturers across the season, would help share the financial burden between the two companies as F1 expands to a 23-race schedule.

Daimler to develop next-generation engines with China's Geely

DAI

BERLIN (Reuters) - German carmaker Daimler <DAIGn.DE> will cooperate with China's Geely to build a next-generation combustion engine for use in hybrid vehicles, it said on Tuesday. Efforts to share development costs between the Chinese and the German groups come as the growth potential for combustion engines faces the twin threat of the COVID-19 crisis and a regulatory clampdown on vehicle emissions. "The companies plan to develop a highly efficient modular engine," a spokesman for Daimler said, adding that it would be used in hybrid drivetrains and manufactured in Europe and China. German factories will be retooled gradually to build electric drivetrains while the manufacture of combustion engines will continue in Germany, Daimler said.
