6 Months Since Launch, We Chose The DJI Mavic 2 Pro, Let's Explain Why!

DJI

Upon initial launch, we recommended that consumers waited before buying to see how the DJI Mavic 2 Zoom and Mavic 2 Pro settled into the market. Drone consumers have been scratching their heads over this decision, the real answer is that each drone is designed for a slightly different audience. Some have even chosen to buy both but this is not a cost effective decision when the two are identical besides the cameras, which offer similar results. We thought long and hard about this decision but opted for the DJI Mavic 2 Pro, largely because of the Hasselblad camera and the manicured and cinematic results that it offers without substantial color grading and editing. 1″ sensor is nice to have – While there may be some outstanding issues in terms of ‘line-skipping’ with the 1″ sensor of the DJI Mavic 2 Pro, the desire to have a drone with such a big sensor is beyond appeal, maybe not for all but certainly for us.

DJI is Updating its Geofencing to Keep Your Drones Away From Airport Runways

DJI

DJI is Updating its Geofencing to Keep Your Drones Away From Airport Runways. DJI would prefer its drones didn't stop you getting on your flight, so it's updating the geofencing system it uses to stop urchins flying drones where they shouldn't be. The updates will roll out over the next month, so it's possible some plank might still fly a DJI drone in front of your lads' holiday flight to Malia before then. And of course even after then, someone might fly a no-name drone they bought off the internet around the airport, though Gatwick does now have anti-drone systems that would hopefully take it down. The new geofence will keep drones from going closer than three-quarters of a mile away from any runways, as well as keeping flying pests out of the takeoff and landing zones.

DJI pledges painful action to tackle corruption

DJI

DJI, the world's bestselling drone-maker, has published an open letter promising to take "painful" steps to tackle corruption within its company. DJI blamed "inefficient and ineffective management processes" in part. But it added that it could not ignore cases of "outright theft". "While mature companies have established the training, controls and management protocols to limit these issues, DJI has in the past emphasised corporate growth over new internal processes," the statement added. The Shenzhen-based firm also makes camera stabilisers - known as gimbals - among other products, and is recognised as being one of China's leading tech innovators. As a private company it does not declare its earnings, but the Nikkei Asian Review estimated that its net income last year was 6bn yuan ($893m; £682m). So, when the firm declared earlier this month that fraud by 45 suspected members of staff had cost it up to 1bn yuan, the sum was seen to be significant if not calamitous for the business.

How to update your DJI drone's firmware with your Windows PC

DJI

There are a few different versions of it, and while the features and how the apps work is basically the same, each version is specific to different drones. Turn on the drone (press then press and hold the power button in most cases.). Besides being an easy way to update to the latest firmware, you can also use DJI Assistant 2 as a way to reset your drone to factory settings, refresh the current firmware installation, or downgrade to an older build if there are bugs you're not happy with in the newer ones. How to update your DJI controller with your Windows PC. Unless your drone and controller have consistent firmwares, you'll get warning messages when you try to fly and you'll be forced to update before taking off. So while you're updating the drone, update its controller in a very similar way using your PC. There are plenty of other things you can do with the DJI Assistant 2 app, but for most people handling firmware is the biggest convenience.
